This banana pudding recipe with chessmen biscuits has quickly become a family favourite!
Make banana pudding using chessmen biscuits:
- Open the Chessmen cookies packages before you begin. Save the prettiest cookies for the top layer and use any broken cookies as the base. Vanilla Wafers can be substituted for Chessmen if you prefer. Graham crackers could also be used!
- You’re not a fan of Cool whip? Use Tru-Whip in place of Cool Whip! It’s found in the frozen foods section at the grocery store and has no hydrogenated oils or high-fructose corn syrup. Make homemade whipped cream by whipping up 2 cups heavy cream.
- Ball Fruit-Fresh will prevent bananas from turning brown. Fruit-Fresh can help you to reduce the browning of bananas. Try using bananas which are still firm and barely ripe.
- Making walking banana puddin’ using nilla wafers in snack size is easy! This is a fun dessert to serve at parties or as a camping dessert.
- Try using Neufchâtel cheese for a little fewer calories than regular cream cheese! You can use evaporated or sweetened milk instead if you find sweetened condensed to be too sweet. I have also used half the can of the sweetened condensed milk, and it’s still sweet enough!

This Paula Deen Banana Pudding is a hit with everyone!
You’ll want to keep the recipe handy because folks will ask how you made this banana masterpiece! I love how this tastes after it has been in the fridge because the shortbread cookies soften – it’s almost like refrigerator cake.
We made this for my daughter’s birthday one year because she LOVES bananas. It was such a big hit and has now become one of our “go-to” favorite special occasion desserts. I love that it’s very simple to make that my now older kids can make it themselves!
