Prada Tessuto Nylon Backpack (1984)
The “Vela” is what the first Prada backpack became known as, using revolutionary nylon fabric created by Miuccia Prada. The Prada nylon bag was first imagined in 1970s, and later introduced officially in 1984. The Prada nylon backpack changed the world of luxury, introducing a new material which challenged the definitions for ultra-luxury. Nylon was the opposite of leather, which was what was available. Prada’s Tessuto nylon backpack helped elevate the perception of nylon. Prada’s sustainable Re-Nylon line, which includes iconic bags, was introduced in 2019. The fabric used is Econyl. Prada says that it can be recycled endlessly. It is made entirely from waste materials such as fishing nets and fabric scraps. We have a guide on ultra-luxury back packs for anyone who loves wearing them.
