1. Give every item in your home a place to call home.

2. Vacuum or sweep your floors every day, preferably after meals.
Clean eating areas every day (and areas with high traffic), especially after meals. Clean up the crumbs and put them in the garbage. It will also keep bugs away from your home.

3. Making your bed first thing in the morning can make your entire day better.
One of the best ways to start your day is by making your bed as soon as you get up. Make your bed to make your bedroom look more tidy and organized. This will set you up for a good day.

4. Regularly wipe down your appliances.
Appliances made of stainless steel can become dirty very quickly. Simply wiping down your stainless steel appliances will make the entire space shine. Take our favorite stainless-steel cleaner and a microfiber towel to keep under the sink, and this will be your last task when cleaning your kitchen.
5. Grab your basket and do laundry every day.
This will help keep piles at bay. 😂 This is particularly important for parents with kids, as laundry can literally accumulate overnight. Having a laundry system where you can do at least one load a day will make the task seem less daunting when it’s time to fold and put away.

7. You can make cleaning easier by organizing and putting things back in their place.
You’ve probably done it before. While we’re all guilty of it, this habit creates clutter so make sure to put things back in their dedicated places when you’re done with them. If my kiddos can do it, you can too!

That ability starts at a very young age (maybe 1.5 – 2 years old) so this really put things in perspective for me and I made sure all 5 of my kids cleaned up after themselves. Another rule I instituted when they were a little older was that if they leave their toys out in public areas (like the living room or yard or in a shared bedroom), they become ‘public property’ and their other siblings could play with them. This amazing house-cleaning trick was shared by one of Hip’s readers. It even helps relieve parents from some stress if they have children. This also makes kids responsible for keeping their rooms clean, and gives them an appreciation of responsibility.

12. Hang up coats, and clothes, and put away shoes every time you wear them or don’t wear them.
Clothing can easily get out of hand, especially if you have the habit of putting clothes on the bed after trying them on. You’ll have a much tidier foyer and bedroom by putting clothing back, hanging up coats after you walk through the door, and having a designated spot to place shoes.
Don’t have time to put clothing back right away? Place a hamper of clean clothes in the closet to hang later.
13. Sometime you have to just get rid of things to lighten your load.
There are a lot of tips on organizing and cleaning the house, but sometimes, the only way to clean up your house is by getting rid the junk that has built up over the years.
You can easily accumulate extra items, but you may be able to live without many of them. We’ve got some helpful tips on how to get rid of the clutter.
- Host a yard sale. Ask neighbors if they want to join, don’t forget to check and see if you need a permit.
- Get rid of old electronics. Once you know how to recycle electronics, you’ll be freeing up space in your home for the ones you actually use. Did you know that you can even recycle electronics and get paid for it?
- Donate items Find out how you can earn some extra money selling on Facebook Marketplace.
- Check in with your friends and family. If you’re looking for a quick and reliable way to get rid of perfectly good items, ask around to see if anyone you know needs them first. It will also save you from the hassle of trying them on.
14. Give everyone in the house a chore so you’re not doing everything by yourself.
There’s no household where one person can do it all and making the tasks a team effort is one of the best ways to clean a house fast! So if you have a roommate, significant other, or kiddos old enough to chip in, assign everyone a daily or weekly chore to keep up with, and don’t be afraid to make it fun!
